Forward Deployed Product Engineer

Build the product with our customers, not just for them. Get insurance teams live, turn what you learn into features the next customer gets for free, and do most of your building by directing AI models and coding agents.

The role

What you’ll do

Brisc builds AI Analysts for the insurance back office: reconciliation, bordereaux, submissions and claims. Our customers are MGAs, reinsurers, specialty carriers and mutuals across North America, the UK, Bermuda, the Caribbean and Latin America.

Getting a new customer live takes real hands-on work. Every team sends different files, uses different words for the same thing and has its own rules. Once they’re set up, the Analysts run steadily. The first few weeks are where customers decide whether we’re worth it.

Your job has three parts:

  • Get customers live. Set up their workspace, bring in their files, configure the Analyst to their rules, run it alongside their current process until they trust it, and train their team.
  • Own the experience. Watch where customers get stuck and fix it, in the product, in the onboarding flow or in how we explain things.
  • Build what wins the next customer. Anything we do by hand for every customer should become something customers can do for themselves.

We’re an AI-first team. You’ll spend most of your time planning work for AI agents, reviewing what comes back and deciding when it’s good enough to ship.

What to expect

A typical week

Drawn from real onboardings. Customers start with a lot of hands-on help, then settle into a steady rhythm.

Onboarding

Get a customer live

  • Set up a new customer’s workspace, sign-in and users, plus an inbox their team can forward work to.
  • Bring in their sample files and tune extraction until our output matches their spreadsheet.
  • Turn their rules into configuration, like “a quote deadline inside a week is urgent”.
Experience

Fix what gets in the way

  • Run a session with underwriters on which fields they see and which are missing, then ship the changes that week.
  • Pick up a wrong flag from a customer’s support chat, work out whether it’s configuration or a bug, and fix it the same day.
  • Roll a new feature out from one pilot team to the whole customer.
Product

Build for the next customer

  • Build a self-serve feature that removes repeat onboarding work, such as letting customers upload their own reference lists.
  • Turn what you hear on calls into features that help win new customers.
  • Share usage numbers each month and decide what to build next with the team.

Over time, onboarding gets faster because you keep turning hand-holding into product.

Who we’re looking for

What you bring

We’re looking for a product-minded engineer who builds with AI and enjoys customers.

Required
  • Product engineering. You’ve shipped software people use at work, and you think about the whole experience, not just the ticket.
  • User experience. You notice when a screen confuses someone, and you can sketch, test and ship a better one.
  • AI-led building. You use coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor or Codex every day. You can plan work for an agent, review its output critically and explain why a result is wrong.
  • Hands-on AI. You’ve worked with models in production: document extraction, prompts and evaluations, retrieval or agents. You know real customer data behaves differently from the demo.
  • Customer comfort. You’re good on a call with an operations lead or a CFO, and you can explain technical things plainly.
  • Good with messy data. Spreadsheets, PDFs, scanned remittances and emails don’t put you off.
Nice to have
  • Insurance experience. Especially reinsurance, MGAs, carriers or broking. If not, we’ll teach you.
  • Microsoft Azure. Every customer tenant runs on Azure.
  • Startup experience. You’ve owned outcomes, not just tasks.
  • Experience across markets. You’ve worked with customers in different countries.

FAQ

Questions about the role

How much code will I write?

Less than you might expect. You’ll direct AI models and coding agents to do most of the building. You need to read code well, review everything they produce and understand how the system fits together.

Do I need insurance experience?

No. We’ll teach you bordereaux, cash application, delegated authority and claims. It helps if you have it, especially in reinsurance, MGAs, carriers or broking.

How is this different from the Customer Success Manager role?

Customer Success runs deployments through configuration. This role also builds: new features, onboarding tooling and product fixes, often the same week a customer asks.

Who are the customers?

MGAs and delegated-authority programs, reinsurers, specialty carriers and member-owned mutuals, across North America, the UK, Bermuda, the Caribbean and Latin America.

Is the role remote?

Yes. We prefer people who can work North American business hours, since that’s when most customer calls happen. Brisc is headquartered in Toronto, and you’re welcome in person if you’re nearby.

How is compensation set?

We talk about compensation in the first conversation, so neither of us wastes time.
