VIPR alternatives

VIPR Intrali alternatives: the real options, and when VIPR is still the answer.

VIPR Intrali is the best-known bordereaux management platform in the London market. Alternatives fall into four groups: other market systems such as Charles Taylor Tide, workbench modules such as Send, AI-native tools such as distriBind, Bordereau.ai, Vellum and Brisc, and outsourced processing. Which fits depends on whether you need Lloyd’s-grade reporting.

Who VIPR suits

VIPR says “50% of Lloyd’s Managing Agents use a VIPR product” and that it processes “500,000+ bordereaux” a year. Intrali is described as “validating, transforming and aggregating risk, premium and claims data into a single, trusted data model”, with “hundreds of checks and validations” against binder terms. Around it sit a portal, a data warehouse, analytics, onboarding workflow and a managed service.

If you are a managing agent and need the whole delegated authority chain from one vendor, VIPR is a sound choice and probably the default.

Why teams look at alternatives now

Lloyd’s removed Delegated Data Manager as a core market service on 13 September 2024. It continues as an elective service, and managing agents are free to “choose any Delegated Authority bordereaux management system that suits their needs”. Outside Lloyd’s, MGAs and reinsurers often need less platform and more help with files that never match a template.

The alternatives

Eight options, in their own words.

OptionWhat it is, in its own wordsBest when
Charles Taylor Tide “A BDX management solution” that “underpins Delegated Data Manager” You want a market system with DDM heritage
Send Bordereaux ingestion inside an underwriting workbench, with “automatic validation against contracted rules” You want delegated and direct business in one workbench
distriBind A “Digital Data Exchange delivering Automated Back Office processing” across risks, premiums and claims, with reconciliation to cash You want to move partners off spreadsheets altogether
Bordereau.ai Automates “the ingestion, validation, correction and reconciliation of bordereaux for insurance carriers, MGAs and coverholders”, with Lloyd’s 5.2 export You want a narrow AI tool with published pricing
Vellum Insurance Automates “the ingestion, validation, and reporting of bordereaux files” across premium, claims and risk, including Lloyd’s 5.2 You want AI-led ingestion with reporting
Quantemplate A data network offering “data automation for bordereaux management” Your need is data preparation and exchange
Pro Global with VIPR A managed service: “end-to-end support, from data intake and query handling to reporting and resolution” You want someone else to run it
Brisc An Analyst that reads each partner’s layout, produces the bordereau, and reconciles it to cash Files are irregular and the cash has to tie
Where Brisc fits

Where Brisc fits, and where it does not.

Brisc is not a like-for-like replacement for VIPR. It has no coverholder onboarding, no submission portal and no data warehouse, and it is not a Lloyd’s market service, though it generates and validates bordereaux for Lloyd’s reporting in the layout the receiver requires. What it adds is the step the market platforms stop short of: proving the premium on the bordereau against money in the bank, with the evidence on every match. distriBind and Bordereau.ai also describe reconciliation. Many teams keep VIPR for market reporting and put Brisc downstream as the reconciliation layer.

Common questions

VIPR alternatives, answered

What is the best alternative to VIPR for a small MGA?

One without managing-agent obligations rarely needs a full delegated authority platform. Look at Bordereau.ai, Vellum, distriBind and Brisc, and choose on whether you also need cash reconciled.

Should we outsource bordereaux processing or buy a platform?

Outsource when the process is stable and staff are the constraint. Pro Global offers that on VIPR. Buy when formats keep changing or when the knowledge sits with one person you cannot lose.

Does any alternative handle Lloyd’s coverholder reporting standards?

VIPR and Tide are built for it. Bordereau.ai and Vellum state Lloyd’s 5.2 support. Brisc generates and validates the bordereau in the layout your managing agent requires for Lloyd’s reporting; it is not a Lloyd’s market service, so submission through DDM stays with that platform.

Can Brisc work with VIPR instead of replacing it?

Yes, and that is the common pattern: VIPR carries the reporting, Brisc takes irregular files and the reconciliation to cash.
